BCBP CALBAYOG CITY CHAPTER

THANK YOU!!!

Britherhood Way of Life

Strengthen for Service

Strengthen for service, Lord, the hands that holy things have taken;
let ears that now heard Your songs to clamor never waken

Lord, may the tongues which "Holy" sang keep free from all deceiving;
the eyes which saw Your love be bright, the glorious hope perceiving

The feet that tread Your holy courts from light be never banished;
the bodies by Your Body fed, be with new life replenished.

THE BROTHERHOOD BEGINNINGS

The Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals can

trace its beginnings to the Ang Ligaya ng Panginoon Covenant Community as well as to the community movement and Charismatic Renewal from which it sprang.

The Ang Ligaya ng Panginoon was established in 1975 by members of a Charismatic prayer group meeting at Assumption College in Makati. Ligaya has grown to be one of the most successful communities.

In order to bring the Gospel message to other sectors of society and out of a desire to share its community spirituality with more and more people, Ligaya established several renewal ministries and evangelistic movements. One of these movements is the Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals.

Thus, in July 1980, 24 men met at the Makati Sports Club in what was to be the first Men's Breakfast of the soon-to-be Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen & Professionals. The initial

breakfast flourished with more and more businessmen and professionals attending. This signalled the start of the first Life in the Spirit Seminar, the forerunner of the present Brotherhood Christian Life Program (BCLP).

In a span of two years, the first BCBP chapter was established right from where it all started, Makati. By 1984 the fledging organization split into two chapters with the boundary being the Pasig River. The North Chapter was based in Greenhills, San Juan, the South Chapter remained based in Makati. With this milestone, the BCBP continued to spread its wings the following years with Alabang, south of Metro Manila being established, followed by Dagupan up in the northwestern Luzon region in 1986. There was no stopping in the expansion of BCBP from thereon. Several business hubs in Metro Manila cities and municipalities later on found their birth in the BCBP movement.

At the beginning of 1988, BCBP found its way into the business centers of central Philippines, this time conquering Cebu City, Bacolod City and Puerto Princesa City. Cebu Chapter later on ventured into its neighboring provinces and further down south of the country to open new chapters in Mindanao, with Cagayan de Oro City as its initial take off point.

To date, the BCBP can be found in 113 strategic business centers nationwide covering 37 provinces and 38 dioceses. There are 51 full chapters and 62 outreaches in the Philippines and two (2) outreaches in California, USA. In addition, consistent with its calling to evangelize the marketplace, BCBP has opened several corporate evangelization communities in different business establishments, Coca-Cola, Dutch Boy, Phils., Files Systems Inc., Phinma, Mapecon Phils., MZB Mktg, Silay City Gov't., Victorias Milling Co., are among those which have benefited in the conduct of BCLP's and other growth programs through the efforts of the various BCBP chapters' mission teams.

REGISTRATION AND AFFILIATES

The BCBP is also an active member of the Federation of Transparochial Charismatic Communities, a conglomeration of renewal communities organized and under the supervision of the Archdiocese of Manila, and LAIKO; Laity of the Philippines.

As a foundation, the Brotherhood is a registered non-stock, non-profit corporation with the Securities and Exchange Commission, as well as being a registered Donee with the Bureau of Internal Revenue.

Vision Mission

THE BCBP SYSTEM

The BCBP is a body of Christian men and women whose upbringing, education, training and current life situation have placed them in the midst of the marketplace. Theirs, therefore, is a special calling that motivates them to apply their talents and resources on the ordinary as well as out of the ordinary events and situations in their workplace.

VISION OF THE BCBP
Life in Christ in all its fullness for businessmen and professionals. (John 10:10)

Explanation:
* Creating an atmosphere where love, compassion and justice prevails in the marketplace.
* Overcoming situations of injustice, inequality and abuse.
* Provide a more equitable distribution of profits and benefits to labor.
* Fairness and honesty to the consumer.

While all businessmen and professionals recognize the need for profit as a legitimate incentive and prerequisite for maintenance and growth, more of them have come to understand that profit alone is not an end in itself. Businessmen endowed with Christian values see business as a way to social changes by bringing to fulfillment the development of man and country, through the use of available talents and resources.

  • CONVERSION to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • COMMITMENT to values espoused by Him, and

COMMISSIONING as disciples and to advocate the Good News in the marketplace.

This evangelization statement has four key components:

  1. Creating disciples of Christ - This is an essential aspect of evangelization process. This involves bringing people through the process of spiritual conversion, commitment and commissioning. This process of personal renewal is standardized throughout the entire BCBP community, and is the means by which people enter and participate in the life of the BCBP community.
  2. The businesses and the professions - Our calling is in the "marketplace", namely the world of commerce and government and economics. This means that our members, and those whom we call as disciples of Christ, are persons who operate in the marketplace, namely the businessmen or the professionals.
  3. Bringing about a transformation of the marketplace - The marketplace is the battleground. It is in the marketplace, in the economic and business world, where people pursue money and wealth and power, but in so doing, they tend to compromise their faith in and love for God. In the marketplace, it is not only the individuals themselves who are prone to temptations and destructive ways, but it is also the systems, the practices and cultures which have been institutionalized and which make it even more difficult for the righteous to survive.

The marketplace influences the economic situation of the society. However, it is also in the marketplace where the social culture, the lifestyles, and the quality of life can be determined. Therefore there is great potential to transform society if the marketplace itself is transformed.

The objective of creating Christian disciples from among those engaged in the businesses or professions is precisely in order to bring about a transformation of the marketplace and to claim Christ's victory over the marketplace. This is the core of the BCBP mission. As a member of Christ's church, the BCBP has been uniquely called upon to bring about a visible transformation of the marketplace, so that gospel values are adopted and practiced in the day to day conduct of the businesses and professions.

BCBP evangelization is unique in that the process goes beyond the individual member's personal renewal, but manifests itself through visible change and impact, indeed the transformation of the practices, systems, and cultures of the workplace where the member exerts authority or influence.
  4. Living out Christian values and practices. - By the power of the Holy Spirit, the BCBP member lives out Christian values and practices in his place of work. Through the boldness of his actions, his decisions, and his business and professional dealings, as well as through personal testimonies is he able to bring the good news of Jesus Christ among those he deals with in his business and profession. Hopefully by this means, he can invite his colleagues, associates, suppliers, customers, clientele, and others to acquire for themselves a fuller life in Christ.

Our highest priority is to love God. This means the quality and strength of all our other relationships and undertakings should be founded on a deep personal relationship with the Lord. We live out this core value through a consistent prayer life, regular reading of Scripture, faithful observance of the Sacraments, and the leading of an orderly life, a life that is constantly examined, renewed and balanced in the areas of relationships (family & others), finances, intellectual development, health, and spiritual growth.

LOVE FOR COMMUNITY AND COUNTRY
Love for community essentially means loving our brothers and sisters in the BCBP. We show this love by being present and participative in all chapter life activities as well as community-wide gatherings. We show this love by the generous giving of our time, our talents and financial support. In all of these, we are submitted to human authority which, in faith, we know flows from the ultimate authority of our Lord.

COMMITMENT TO THE LORD'S WORK
We know the BCBP has the distinct task of bringing our Lord into the marketplace. We carry this out by bringing fellow businessmen and professionals into the community, by our own personal witnessing in our places of work, and taking an active part in the transformation of business organizations.

The BCBP

A BCBP member is a businessman or professional who influences change leading to Christ centered behavior and practices in his sphere of work. He is a disciple of Jesus Christ and has integrated the Lord's teachings into his total life. He gains support and grows spiritually through his active involvement in the Church and in the Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals. This definition of membership applies not only to men but also to women who are engaged in business and /or the professions.

The BCBP member is one who exerts influence in his place of work, whether out of his position of authority or leadership, or simply out of his own effective dealings with those whom he works and comes into contact with. He is an agent of Christian change in his marketplace, a powerful witness for Jesus Christ and have the ability to encourage and lead transformational change in others.

The Brotherhood Breakfast

The Breakfast is unique to the BCBP.

There is no other organization that is known to
have instituted a breakfast that has changed the lives
of so many businessmen and professionals.

The BCBP has the singular distinction of having introduced
and sustained the breakfast system to bring the
Gospel of Christ so effectively to the marketplace.

From this concept of a "Christian men's breakfast"
evolved a potent renewal organization, the Brotherhood
of Christian Businessmen and Professionals.

The Breakfast is a basic entry point for
personal renewal.

This is an important objective of the breakfast.
It must continue to be the easiest way to a person's
search for spiritual renewal. The simplicity of form and
the effective delivery of Gospel message through the
"sharing", are key to the painless introduction of a
businessman or professional to the door of
Christian renewal.

The Breakfast is a means to continue upbuilding the members of the BCBP.

The breakfast attendance is not an "option" for BCBP members but rather a commitment to the
evangelistic culture of the BCBP. As members, all are bound to not only evangelize in the
breakfast but equally important is, to "fellowship, share and upbuild" brothers and sisters through
faithful attendance and participation in the breakfasts. This is an inherent part of the BCBP culture which
members have sworn to propagate in the marketplace. Every breakfast where the guest sharer
shares his work experiences strengthens and upbuilds the membership. This confirms the support
that Christian businessmen and professionals are not alone in the resolve to actively bring Christ
to marketplace and winning the marketplace for Christ.
